Denim to Diamonds

The Company of Theatre Arts
The Company of Theatre Art's Denim to Diamonds, is a celebration of the music that goes with Diamonds and Denim.

Diamonds and Denim in the same sentence? Why not? In a world where fashion flaunts convention, wealth is ostentatious and the 60's generation is still wearing their 501s, dress up, dress down! Jeans can be associated with a number of movies from Levi Strauss's original copper-riveted "waist-overalls" (as jeans were then known) to being a fashion icon in the 1950's with the release of The Wild Ones in 1953 starring Marlon Brando to the seminal Rebel Without a Cause (1955) starring James Dean. In both movies, the stars wore blue jeans, black leather jackets and tight, white T-shirts.

Dress up, dress down and enjoy the musical journey from Paul Simon's Diamonds on the Souls of her Shoesto the Beatles' Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds - symbolic of the flower-power generation, hippies and embroidered bell-bottoms - denims, of course!

The show also travelled to Umkomaas Primary School for two performances on May 19 and 20 as fund-raisers for local schools. This is part of The Company’s commitment to giving back to the community. Last year COTA raised over R11,000 through a charity performance for one of its members who was stricken with Guillam Barre syndrome.
